Giovanna Gatica-Dominguez hired as a consultant in the Monitoring Nutritional Status & Food Safety Events (MNF) Unit, World Health Organization

Giovanna worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the International Center for Equity in Health from March  2017 to August 2020, leading the nutrition team and working in scientific papers on nutrition and health inequalities. Since mid August, she started as a full-time consultant to support the nutrition monitoring team at the World Health Organization based in Geneva, Switzerland.

The nutrition monitoring team, in collaboration with UNICEF-WH-WB the Joint Child Malnutrition Estimates (JME) group, work 1) to maintain the WHO Global Database on Child Growth and Malnutrition; 2) to develop tools to help standard analysis of anthropometric surveys; and 3) to monitor countries targets towards the global nutrition targets and their respective Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of the JME group, Giovanna's main activities will be: gathering survey reports and datasets, assessing the methodology and possible data quality issues, and participating in JME group discussions to decide the inclusion of surveys in the JME dataset. Additionally, she will be contributing in the updates of the Tracking Tool, verifying the coherence of the information that it is aligned with the latest version of the JME dataset. Giovanna will also contribute verifying the functionality of the latter tool and of the Anthro Survey Analyzer, and the development of training material for both tools. Finally, she will be supporting the statistical analysis related to COVID-19.
