Researchers from ICEH are leading the workshop Measuring Inequalities in Coverage of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Interventions, held from October 18th to 22th at the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia. The course is part of the Countdown to 2030 initiative in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The workshop focuses on monitoring health coverage and equity in RMNCH. Attendees include service managers, policy makers, academics at federal or state health agencies, international organizations, or academic institutions from 11 countries -  Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Peru, and Panama.

A research team from ICEH – Cesar Victora, Aluisio Barros, Maria Clara Restrepo, Fernando Wehrmeister and Leonardo Ferreira – is leading the workshop meetings along with professionals from PAHO, Unicef, and Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.

The meetings take part in the Countdown to 2030 strategy of introducing a regional hub-and-spoke model to build countries capacity to undertake multi-country and in-depth case study research and use the findings to shape national plans and policies. ICEH is the first regional hub and will work with Latin American and Caribbean and Lusophone African countries.

The classes include lectures, practical sessions and group discussion aimed to create opportunities for participatory learning through computer practices with work on a regional or country wide study. Participants deal with real-world examples to illustrate concepts, and exercises or country case studies will help build knowledge.
