ICEH joins USP Summer Program 2026 with course on health inequalities

The International Center for Equity in Health (ICEH) is part of the 2026 Summer Program of the School of Public Health at the University of São Paulo (USP) through the course “Measuring Health Inequalities,” held from January 26 to 30.
ICEH’s participation strengthens its institutional partnership with USP, focused on high-quality public health training and on advancing the health equity agenda in Brazil and internationally.
The course brings together conceptual foundations, empirical analysis, and practical applications. Janaína Calu Costa, a researcher affiliated with both USP and ICEH, explores theories of disease distribution, racial inequities, and complex measures of inequality.
Aluísio Barros, Director of ICEH, discusses theoretical models, dimensions of inequality, and monitoring strategies, with a particular focus on gender inequities. ICEH researcher Francine Costa leads discussions on data visualization, inequality patterns, and the deepening of the gender equity debate.
Alongside its theoretical and methodological approach, the course includes hands-on activities using analytical tools. These sessions strengthen participants’ ability to critically interpret results, identify patterns of inequality, and bridge the gap between theory, empirical evidence, and action in support of health equity.
