ICEH was honored at the 18th ExpoEpi in Brasília

The International Center for Equity in Health (ICEH) was honored during the opening ceremony of the 18th National Exhibition of Successful Experiences in Epidemiology, Prevention and Disease Control (ExpoEpi), held between 13 and 17 April 2026 in Brasília.

Organized by Brazil’s Health and Environmental Surveillance Secretariat of the Ministry of Health (SVSA/MS), ExpoEpi has become an important national platform for knowledge dissemination, exchange of experiences, and collaboration among health managers, academic institutions, social movements, and public health professionals.

According to the award, ICEH was recognized for its “relevant contribution to the development of epidemiology, disease prevention, and disease control actions in Brazil.”

This recognition also reflects the trajectory of the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), where the Center is based and where research initiatives aimed at strengthening public health in Brazil and globally are developed.

During the ceremony held on 14 April, the Center was represented by Fernando Wehrmeister and Francine Costa, who received the tribute on behalf of the entire ICEH team.

This year’s edition focused on “Health and Climate Change,” promoting discussions on the impacts of environmental transformations on public health and the need for integrated, innovative, and evidence-based responses.

The recognition reinforced ICEH’s commitment to equity-oriented research and to strengthening evidence-based public policies.
